Discover the Wine Routes of Greece
On Sunday, 8 November 2026, wineries across Greece will celebrate World Wine Tourism Day and welcome visitors to discover the country’s rich winemaking heritage, explore picturesque vineyards, and sample exceptional Greek wines.
Participating wineries will open their doors to the public, offering opportunities to meet local wine producers, learn about the winemaking process, explore production facilities and ageing cellars, and taste both newly released wines and older vintages. Visitors can also discover wines from the latest harvest while enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Greece’s wine-producing regions.
What to Expect
World Wine Tourism Day offers a unique opportunity to experience Greek wine culture firsthand. Depending on the winery, activities may include:
- Guided tours and wine tastings: Explore vineyards, production facilities and ageing cellars while discovering a selection of wines.
- Food and wine pairings: Sample wines alongside local specialities and regional products.
- Special events: Enjoy culinary workshops, music, art exhibitions and other activities organised by participating wineries.
- Meet the producers: Learn about local grape varieties, winemaking traditions and the people behind Greece’s wines.
Admission is traditionally free at participating wineries, although individual activities, tastings or special events may have specific requirements. Opening hours and booking arrangements vary by winery; visitors should check the details in advance.
A Celebration of Wine Across Greece
The World Wine Tourism Day, first established in 2009 as European Wine Tourism Day, became international in 2019. It is held annually on the second Sunday of November and brings together wine producers and wine enthusiasts to celebrate the diversity of European and international wine culture.
In Greece, the event involves regional associations and networks of wine producers, including:
- Wine Producers of Northern Greece
- Wines and Spirits of Thessaly
- Union of Wine Producers of Central Greece
- Association of Vineyard Wine Producers of Attica
- Union of Wine Producers of the Peloponnese Vineyard
- Association of Vine Growers of the Aegean Islands
- Wines of Crete
Plan Your Wine-Tasting Experience
With wine routes stretching from Northern Greece and Thessaly to Central Greece, the Peloponnese, Crete and the Aegean islands, visitors during World Wine Tourism Day can choose an itinerary that combines wine tasting with local gastronomy, cultural attractions and scenic landscapes.
Because the event attracts many visitors, we recommend planning ahead. Contact your chosen wineries to confirm their participation, opening hours, tasting options and whether reservations are required for guided tours.
Below is a regional guide to wineries and wine routes listed for the event. Please contact each winery or regional association to confirm its participation and arrangements for 8 November 2026.
