Description
Zoinos Winery is built on a slope at an altitude of 700 meters at the village of Zitsa, 26 kilometres from the city of Ioannina.
Established in Zitsa in 1972, Zoinos Winery is the oldest and largest cooperative winery in northwest Greece. It has been operating since 1974 and aims to preserve and improve the indigenous varieties, white Debina, recognized in 1972 as PDO Zitsa, and the red Vlahiko and Bekari, as a PGI Epirus.
Zoinos Winery produces both still and sparkling wines, as well as distillates.
The company made a number of investments in recent years to upgrade its existing winery and to establish a new one in the city of Ioannina. Zoinos Winery produces high-quality wines using innovative methods of viticulture and winemaking.
Visitors can admire the vineyards with the unique white variety Debina and the red Vlachiko and Bekari, cultivated on more than 200 hectares in the green Kalama valley and its river, whose crystalline waters complete the stunning natural setting.
TOUR AND TASTING
The visit includes a tour through the winery’s production, bottling and ageing facilities, and a wine tasting session accompanied by local delicacies of Epirus.
The wine tasting takes place in the renovated tasting room in an area inspired by the mythical god of wine, Dionysos, as well as by Zitsa’s and Epirus wine history.
