Description
Ampelourgia Mpeka was established in 1998 as a vertically integrated production unit in the Peloponnese, spanning two regions — Arkadia and Corinthia — with 50 acres of vineyards and 10 acres of Sultanina table grapes.
The charming stone winery sits in Chotousa, Mantinea, Arkadia, at approximately 800 meters altitude, just beyond Levidi and before Vytina. All land is farmed organically, including aromatic herbs such as oregano.
Grape cultivars include Moschofilero, Malagouzia, Assyrtiko, Moschato, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, all grown using organic methods.
Wild Asparagus Foraging
- Wild Asparagus Foraging: Learn to identify, locate, and harvest wild asparagus (sparangi) in the estate’s wild areas using traditional methods passed down through generations of Greek rural life
- Foraging Education: Discover why wild Greek asparagus is so prized — its brief season, intense flavour, and the skill required to find and harvest it sustainably
- Cooking & Tasting: Cook and taste freshly harvested wild asparagus using simple traditional recipes that celebrate its extraordinary natural flavour
The winery accommodates both organized groups and individual visitors, including wine enthusiasts eager to sample exceptional wines alongside local delicacies.
This seasonal foraging activity takes place on relatively even terrain at lower altitudes. Required equipment includes long pants, sturdy boots, a basket, and gardening gloves — consistent with mushroom hunting gear.
Please note that this activity is not suitable for children. Be aware that snakes may become more active after the harvest season. Explore more Peloponnese experiences through Gastronomy Tours.
