Bio Sitia

Our company was established so as to meet the growing regional demand for better quality olive oil, a need requiring strict management and quality standards.
Believing that the vision of a unique, high-quality product would contribute decisively to regional development, the producers of Sitia, in Crete, with the Holy Monastery of Toplou at the forefront, founded Biokalliergites Sitias SA in 1999. Its aim is to produce, standardize, and distribute organic extra virgin olive oil Sitia PDO and the extra virgin olive oil Sitia PDO. The idea was simple: faith in tradition. Our values are eternal: respect for the natural environment and humankind.
The Bio Sitia S.A. olive oil company possesses the only oil mill in the area that produces olive oil exclusively from organic olive cultivation. Those pressing olives in this mill are the producers who cultivate the olive groves of the Toplou Monastery and the Sitia’s Organic Farmers who set up the company.
The Holy Monastery of Panagia Akrotiriani and St. Ioannis Theologos Toplou Sitia are situated in northeast Crete and is one of the oldest and most historic monasteries in Crete. It was built east of Sitia in the 14th century, close to the palm-tree forest of Vai, and is the largest of its kind in eastern Crete.

TOUR AND TASTING

Visitors can enjoy a guided tour of the olive oil factory that exclusively produces organic extra virgin olive oil. They can see the equipment used to extract the olive oil from the olives cultivated in the area around Toplou Monastery, as well as the olive oil bottling facilities used to bottle the extra virgin olive oil for our product line.
In special olive oil tasting glasses, guests can try the company’s products, with the guidance of a specialist.
