Karakasi (Iliokastro) of Ermioni, is known for its sweet wine since antiquity. Every early September, a wine festival is organised here, bringing back long forgotten memories.
A small performance takes place under the moonlight. The performance takes you through the steps of winemaking, representing the grapes being harvested, the family loading them on the donkeys, and the donkeys taking them to the grape crushing facilities, which is where the wine will eventually be made. Parallel to the performance, poems are read, in relation to the vines and the vineyards. Eventually, your attention will be drawn to the show of fireworks, that fills the night sky.
The traditional party goes on until the morning, be prepared to drink a lot of wine.
