The Kozani Compulsory Partnership of Crocus Producers was established in 1971 in Macedonia, headquartered in the village of Krokos, and comprising approximately 1,000 member producers from the Western departments of Kozani prefecture. Saffron (crocus) has been cultivated in the Kozani area since the 17th century — and this cooperative exists to protect, promote, and market this extraordinary PDO Greek saffron.
Before 1966, individual producers sold their saffron through wholesalers at low prices without bargaining power; the cooperative transformed the fortunes of an entire agricultural community while safeguarding one of the world’s most precious spices. The Partnership has been producing accredited organic saffron since 1997, and holds exclusive rights to collect, control, pack, and handle the entire annual production of Krokos Kozanis PDO saffron at its modern facilities.
