Argatia Winery is a small, family-owned boutique winery founded in 2004 in Rodochori, a picturesque village near the historic wine town of Naoussa, in Northern Greece. Situated at an altitude of approximately 450 meters on the eastern slopes of Mount Vermio, the winery benefits from a unique microclimate characterised by cool nights, moderate daytime temperatures, and well-drained soils—ideal conditions for cultivating premium wine grapes.
The primary vision of Argatia Winery is to craft high-quality wines with a strong sense of place, with a particular focus on wines under the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) of Naoussa. Central to this philosophy is the indigenous Greek grape variety Xinomavro, which is widely regarded as one of Greece’s most noble and age-worthy grapes. Through careful vineyard management and minimal intervention winemaking, the winery aims to showcase the exceptional character, complexity, and ageing potential of native Greek varieties, proving their unique value on the global wine stage.
The vineyards are cultivated organically, with great respect for nature and the surrounding ecosystem. Sustainable viticultural practices are applied to preserve soil health, biodiversity, and the natural balance of the vineyard environment. By avoiding synthetic chemicals and emphasising manual vineyard work, Argatia Winery ensures that each grape reflects the terroir’s authenticity and the family’s philosophy.
Wine Tour and Tasting Experience
The visit typically begins with a guided walk through the experimental vineyard located at the front of the winery, where guests can learn about grape varieties, organic cultivation techniques, and the influence of the local terroir.
The tour continues inside the modern yet small-scale family winery, where visitors are introduced to the winemaking process, from grape reception and fermentation to ageing and bottling. Guests will also visit the wine cellar, where selected wines mature in barrels and bottles under controlled conditions.
The experience concludes with a curated wine tasting session, where visitors can sample a selection of Argatia’s wines. The tasting is complemented by local and traditional delicacies, offering an authentic taste of the Naoussa region and its culinary heritage. This combination of wine, local flavours, and warm family hospitality makes a visit to Argatia Winery a memorable journey into Greek wine culture.
