Usually, around the first weekend in August (August 4-5, 2024), the Skala Kalloni Sardine Festival is celebrated in the village’s central square. During winter, the village comes alive with music and nightlife, attracting many young people from the mountain villages where life has slowed to a crawl.
Pans and grills will be ablaze, serving traditionally prepared sardines from Kalloni. Guest chefs will join forces with local housewives and grillers. Ouzo distilleries will offer complimentary ouzo, and an orchestra will set the stage for a feast to conclude this year’s sardine festival.
Renowned worldwide, Kalloni Sardines has more followers every year. Whether eaten fresh in one of the many traditional tavernas by the sea or salted, Kalloni sardines continue to vindicate their reputation.
