After finishing his studies at the Aegean University of Rhodes, Giorgos Kariofyllis returned to his ancestral lands in the mountainous village of Lepetymnos on the island of Lesbos, establishing a farm that houses deer, wild sheep, dwarf goats, peacocks, and pheasants.
His journey began in 2013 with the cultivation of aronia — commonly known as chokeberries and classified internationally as a top medicinal superfood. Each year the farm expands its product range with aronia-derived items including jam, dried fruit, fresh or frozen fruit, and tea.
Visitors to Kariofylli farm can see and learn about the aronia plant and its cultivation and connect with a variety of farm animals, feed them, and learn their habits. The experience is of great interest to adults and especially to children, making the farm popular with schools and social clubs.
Visitors taste aronia jam, dried aronia fruit, and aronia tea, and receive detailed information on aronia as a superfood. Upon leaving, visitors can purchase fresh eggs and other Bio Aronia Lesvos products.
