At the squid festival of Chiliadou coal-roasted squid is offered following a fishing contest. The person who catches the most squid is the winner and a lively revelry takes place in the evening.
Chiliadou is well known for this festival and is famed for its extensive pebbly beach, its rock-climbing fields, but also its serenity for the solitary. If you happen to be there during the first half of July, you will come across the squid festival that takes place every year.
Some of the special local foods one can enjoy are the kourkoubines or goglies. Other dishes include trahana, kokoras krasatos, lamb giouvetsi, shrimps saganaki, octopus in wine and spaghetti with fishfood.
