Dine under the Stars at Afianes Wines

A fusion of wine tradition, archaeology, and innovation, the Afianes estate is located on the Ikarian highlands overlooking the western end of the island — a true sanctuary for wine and nature lovers.

Afianes wine estate was created with love and good taste in 1997 in the Raches district of Ikaria. From the outset, Nikos Afianes and his wife, Maria, aimed to have Ikarian wine regain its ancient place on the global wine map. Today, Afianes wines have established themselves worldwide, combining the ancient wine traditions of Ikaria with exquisite local grape varieties and innovative winemaking methods.

Visitors can get acquainted with the traditional Ikarian way of making wine, starting with the old “cyclopean horseshoe-shaped winepress” and the stone cellar for clay jars. Afianes’ winery is built within a large vineyard in the village of Profitis Elias, in northwestern Ikaria, at an altitude of 610 m.

Begin your private tour of the estate by visiting the “pithostasi,” where wine is fermented and aged in clay jars buried underground, and experience the ancient Ikarian wine-making method. Enter the granite cellar to taste three cellar wines while the winemaker helps you choose the right one for your dinner.

Be taken to the dinner location where your table will be set in the courtyard of a granite house, next to a 200-year-old chestnut tree, and watch our chef prepare a multi-course dinner exclusively for you.
