Description
A collective of five families united by a passion for sustainable, eco-friendly tourism, highlighting the unique natural and cultural heritage of Chios through guided countryside walks and well-maintained trails.
The Kampos countryside walking tour steps into one of the most atmospheric and historically rich areas of Chios. This walk explores a unique mosaic of historic mansions, stone walls, fragrant citrus orchards, and peaceful paths — beautiful in every season.
The route unfolds among lush citrus gardens, home to the famous oranges, mandarins, and lemons introduced to Chios by the Genoese centuries ago. Depending on the season, guests may taste or enjoy the aromas of fresh citrus fruits. The experience includes visits to authentic Kampos mansions and private orchards, where owners share insights into the history, architecture, and traditional way of life. Guests also see the mángano — the historic water-lifting system once used to draw water from deep wells.
Along the route, tastings of at least three traditional Chiot sweets prepared by local artisanal producers are included, and authentic spoon sweets preserved in syrup are available to purchase. The walk also visits charming local churches known for their intricate pebble-stone courtyards.
The experience concludes at the renowned Kampos Museum “Perivoli,” created by the Xydas family. Guests can enjoy coffee or herbal drinks under a linden tree, paired with homemade sweets served on antique English porcelain.
