Anoskeli Agricultural Company S.A. was founded in 1983 by the Mamidakis family and named Anoskeli after their birthplace, a small village between Kissamos and Chania, Crete. The village today hosts the company’s privately owned premises, including a state-of-the-art olive oil production facility and a boutique winery, as well as 12Ha of privately owned olive groves with 2,888 olive trees and a 2Ha vineyard.
The company holds ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 certifications and operates in accordance with strict EU and Greek standards.
The olive oil plant spans over 400 square meters and includes modern machinery, a fully automated bottling line, a standardisation facility, and a specially designed warehouse with stainless-steel tanks with an aggregate storage capacity of 1,000 tons.
The winery spans over 600 square meters, and includes a modern standardisation facility and bottling line, as well as a cellar with a storage capacity of 35,000 litres and 30 French oak barrels.
Under its brand, Anoskeli S.A. produces, packs, and trades extra virgin olive oil and organic extra virgin olive oil, both produced from cold-pressed Koroneiki olives. Both products bear the Kolymvari Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and have received numerous awards.
As of 2011, Anoskeli S.A. produces bottled wine and trades high-quality wine under the trade name Ano Playa (dry white, dry red, and dry rosé wines), using Greek local grape varieties Vidiano, Vilana, and Assyrtiko, as well as French varieties Syrah, Grenache Rouge, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The company constantly experiments with new flavours to bring out the potential of the Cretan soil in Anoskeli and its surrounding areas.
Anoskeli S.A. recently launched a range of limited-edition red wines under the Anoferia label, as well as a premium tsikoudia under the Ano Kato brand.
Olive Oil and Wine, Tour and Tasting
The company’s facilities are open to the public year-round, offering guided tours conducted by specialised personnel that provide a first-hand experience of olive oil production and winemaking. The recently built tasting and exhibition hall gives visitors the opportunity to try its products, and is suitable for hosting artistic and cultural events.
Since the village of Anoskeli is entirely residential but with a shrinking population as villagers move to urban centres, it has been the family’s ambition to build a space to attract and welcome visitors. As such, the wine tasting room was constructed to welcome guests who wish to taste the company’s products and become acquainted with the methods of producing olive oil and wine. The wine tasting room has been named after the family’s mother, Eirini, in honour of the love and strong values she bestowed on her children. Art and photography exhibitions, as well as other social events, are hosted from time to time, bringing life to the village.
It’s not just a tour …it’s a Tasting Tour!
After the guided tour, you will have the opportunity to taste organic extra virgin olive oil, five different wines, and tsikoudia, along with Cretan appetisers, in our modern tasting and exhibition hall.
