For the 6th consecutive year, the winemakers of Crete, along with the esteemed Cretan wine exhibition “Oinotika,” are set to arrive in Athens, adhering faithfully to their annual engagement with the city’s residents. This anticipated event is scheduled to take place on Monday, October 30, at the Athenaeum InterContinental Hotel.

Representing various regions of Crete, a total of thirty wineries will bring along an array of 11 native grape varieties, including 7 PDO and 6 PGI zones. They extend a warm invitation to all attendees to explore the distinctive fragrances of Vidianos, Liatiko, Romeikos, Vilana, and numerous other ambassadors of the Cretan vineyard. Approximately 300 wine labels will be made accessible for tasting, ensuring a comprehensive experience for all visitors.

The outward-facing endeavors of the Cretan wineries persisted with full vigor throughout 2023, characterized by a series of promotional activities both within and beyond the national borders.

Participation in Domestic and International Wine Showcases

The wineries of Crete made their presence felt at prestigious wine events such as Prowein, the London Wine Fair, and Oinorama, effectively acquainting the global audience, Greek professionals, and wine enthusiasts with exceptional Cretan wine. Concurrently, the highly successful “Oinotika” Cretan wine exhibitions carried on in Crete (Heraklion and Chania) and Cyprus, garnering substantial acclaim from professionals within the industry as well as wine aficionados.

A significant highlight of 2023 was the collaborative venture with the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, hosting the “Vineyard” event, where visitors embarked on a journey through 23 wine exhibits within the “Wine Roads at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.”

Exploratory Visits by International Professionals

In line with the promotion of the Protected Geographical Indication “Crete,” notable wine professionals and journalists from the United States and the United Kingdom were invited to the island for tours of wineries, vineyards, and cultural heritage sites. These initiatives were devised to attract international professionals further and expand the global outreach of Cretan wine. Moreover, Crete played host to 30 winemakers from Michelin-starred restaurants across Europe, as well as the esteemed author Julia Harding MW, providing them with a comprehensive insight into the diverse spectrum of the Cretan vineyard.
