The monastery of Panagia Flevariotissa (Madonna Flavariotissa) is a complex consisting of the main temple and a series of low buildings that form a big internal patio between them. The church is white, of the Cycladic style, with many arches. The monastery is accessible either on foot or by car. The excursion begins from Chora, the island’s main town. The dirt road follows along the ridge of the mountain and, reaches the monastery after about 7km.
Preparations begin on the eve of the day before the Visitation. These include the cooking of the island’s traditional dishes, including lambriano, giaprakia, the poungia sweet and lambropites. Feasting and celebrating begin after sunset where locals, participants, and visitors are welcome to join.
