The Festival includes the established eggplant competition and gives the possibility to all those who are around that day to enjoy a delicious eggplant dish, made by the local women. Eventually, the eggplant dishes will be judged by a committee of specialists and the best one will be chosen.The visitors will also have the possibility to listen to traditional music and see or even participate in traditional dances.
The awarded as “PDO” (Protected Designation of Origin) product eggplant of Tsakona, will be used equally in cooking as in baking, to produce the famous spoon sweet : “melitzanaki”.
This is a great celebration, as it emerges and supports this local production of Leonidio and the Tsakoniki eggplant which is characterized as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), product since March 1996, guaranteeing the producers of Leonidio cultivation exclusivity of this eggplant variety under strict production standards.
