If you are looking for a celebration that “shouts from afar: Amorgos!” this is the feast of the Roasted Raki, which takes place every year on July 26 in the picturesque port of Katapola by the building of the Association of Katapolians of Amorgos under the auspices of the Municipality of Amorgos, in collaboration with the Association of Professionals of Amorgos. This is a popular custom of the island, which is one of the famous events of the island since the local drink of the island, the roasted raki, is honored with the above!

Visitors can learn from the locals how the famous raki is produced and how to roast it. In addition to the traditional roasted one, we usually offer plain raki, based on an ancient recipe, and the genuine Amorgiano pasteli in the shape of a diamond, with sesame, honey, and a lemon leaf among other local dishes.

Initially, visitors gather around 6.30 in the church to assist the vespers of Saint Panteleimon. Around 9 o’clock the big feast begins. Dancers dressed in traditional clothing come from Xylokeratidi by boat, while their reception in Katapola is usually accompanied by flares and live Amorgian music while the first dances begin, until the next day in the morning.
