The Ancient Agora of Athens Revives Through Gastronomy
Exploring Agora Paths: A Culinary Journey Through History
Athens, Greece — On May 17–18, 2025, Agora Paths will transform the area surrounding the Ancient Agora of Athens into a vibrant gastronomic festival, showcasing the Greek capital as a rising culinary destination. Along Apostolou Pavlou pedestrian street, adjacent to one of the city’s most historic sites, visitors will enjoy a unique street event where gastronomy and history converge.
Formerly known as “The Wine Road,” the event has been rebranded as Agora Paths. It has expanded its footprint from Iraklidon Street to span the entire Apostolou Pavlou stretch, from Thiseio Metro Station to the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. This year’s edition promises a free, immersive tasting experience inspired by Ancient Greek traditions.
Organised by Andreas Smyrlis Liakatas, the visionary behind Retro Gastro, and his dedicated team, Agora Paths aims to spotlight Athens’ culinary heritage by reviving the Agora’s historic role as a hub of commerce, dialogue, and cultural exchange.
Hundreds of Greek producers will participate, offering an array of local wines, spirits, craft beers, and traditional products. Visitors can meet the producers, sample artisanal products, enjoy live music performances, and attend lectures and cultural presentations by historians and institutions.
Agora Paths invites Athenians and international visitors alike to experience a journey through the flavours and traditions of Greece, right at the heart of the ancient city.
Admission is free.
