The Great Graviera Festival, the feast of the traditional Cretan cheese is held in Anopolis, Sfakia region, on August the 15th, 2018 at 9:00 in the evening, with plenty of meat, pilaf, wine, and graviera.
Anopoli, is mainly a range village with a great tradition in cheese making. It is the village with the most traditional ‘mitata’ (mitato singular, mitata plural = is a term meaning “shelter” or “lodging” in Greek) in Crete, some of them still function in the same way as they have been operating for hundreds of years without being affected by the modern way of life.
The Graviera Festival in Anopolis Sfakia honors and promotes the most important and most valuable cheese-making product Crete, the Cretan Graviera.
