The President of the Winemaking Cooperative of Samos, Ioannis Skoutas, signed a memorandum of cooperation on January 16, 2025, in Sicily with the wine-producing regions of Jerez (Spain) and Marsala (Italy). The goal is establishing a European Network of Fortified Wine-Producing Regions and securing their inclusion in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

The network encompasses legendary regions known for producing fortified wines, celebrated for their ageing potential and historical significance. It is also anticipated that the Port and Madeira regions (Portugal) will be included. Samos, although the smallest partner, benefits from its association with iconic wine destinations such as Jerez and Marsala.

The initiatives include wine tastings and participation in international exhibitions, such as Vinitaly (2025) and Vinoble (2026). This effort aims to promote these regions’ cultural and winemaking heritage, offering significant benefits to the network’s members.
