The “Queen” of Greek cheeses is one of the most important export products of Greece and perhaps the most recognized Greek food in the world together with retsina wine.

Feta, is widely known throughout the world as the main ingredient of “horiatiki” Greek salad. Apart from this refreshing summer salad, it is also the chief ingredient in most cheese pies ( tiropita), and is often added to spinach pies (spanakopita) as well as a host of other dishes in the Greek cuisine.

Feta has a prime place in our choices within the Mediterranean cuisine not only for its special flavor but also for its nutritional value.

As a dairy product, it is rich in calcium and proteins of high biological value, while offering amounts of vitamin D, phosphorus, and magnesium. Its consumption can have beneficial effects on bone and muscle building, prevent dental decays, making it an ideal source of nutrients for those who exercise, for children and for those with increased calcium requirements.

Feta has a lot of benefits and if it’s consumed in moderation, it can improve our health. Even a small quantity can give a wonderful taste to the most “boring” food!
