International Xinomavro Day Returns on 1 November
A worldwide celebration of one of Greece’s most distinctive grape varieties, with wine tastings, winery visits and a special event in Thessaloniki.
Sunday, 1 November 2026 — Wine lovers around the world are invited to celebrate International Xinomavro Day, an occasion dedicated to one of Greece’s most distinguished and versatile grape varieties. Renowned for its complexity, vibrant acidity, structured tannins and remarkable ageing potential, Xinomavro continues to capture the attention of wine enthusiasts and professionals in Greece and internationally.
Xinomavro: A Greek Variety with International Appeal
Considered one of Northern Greece’s leading grape varieties and among the country’s finest red grapes, Xinomavro is celebrated for its distinctive personality and extraordinary versatility. Its aromatic complexity, lively acidity and firm tannic structure create wines with depth, character and an impressive capacity to evolve over time, with some expressions capable of ageing for several decades.
One of Xinomavro’s greatest strengths is its ability to express itself through a wide range of wine styles. From white wines made using blanc de noir techniques and elegant rosés to red wines ranging from fresh and youthful to mature and complex, the variety offers something for every palate. Special Wine Tasting in Thessaloniki
To mark the occasion, the Winemakers of Northern Greece association is organising a walk-around wine tasting in Thessaloniki under the title:
“Celebrating Xinomavro – The Grape Variety with a Thousand Faces!”
The event will take place at The Wine Hub, the association’s wine-tasting venue, where visitors will have the opportunity to sample more than 30 different wine labels produced by members of the Winemakers of Northern Greece.
