Description
With heartfelt pride, we invite you to experience a unique tapestry woven from centuries of tradition, vibrant culture, and the timeless beauty of our land. Nestled in a serene valley surrounded by olive groves, the Historic Liotrivi Mansion offers a peaceful escape just ten minutes from the legendary castle town of Monemvasia.
Originally established in Byzantine times as a celebrated winery, the mansion was once home to the production of the renowned sweet, sun-dried white wine “Malvasia”—a Mediterranean treasure that graced the tables of European nobility for centuries. Each drop carries with it the warmth of the sun and the soul of our region.
In the years following the Greek War of Independence, the mansion became a cherished summer retreat for the family of the esteemed Greek poet Yiannis Ritsos. It was here, amidst nature’s calm and the simplicity of rural life, that he found inspiration. Even today, the walls seem to echo his verses, preserving the spirit of his creativity.
By 1929, the estate had transformed into a traditional olive mill, which for nearly 40 years was a hub of olive oil production for the surrounding communities. The scent of freshly pressed oil and the rhythmic turning of millstones filled the air until 1967, when the mill ceased operations.
Today, the Liotrivi Mansion stands restored and revitalized, preserving its historic character with care and respect. It has evolved into a vibrant cultural and agritourism center—where history, heritage, and hospitality come together in a meaningful way.
Surrounded by ancient olive trees and natural beauty, visitors are invited to take part in experiences that blend the past with the present. Whether through guided walks, cultural exhibitions, or hands-on activities, each moment connects guests to the land and its stories.
Among the highlights is our Olive Oil Tasting Experience, a guided journey through the flavors and aromas of extra virgin olive oils made exclusively from the estate’s own groves. Visitors learn to recognize the unique characteristics of each oil, discover the artistry behind its production, and gain insight into the traditions that define our local olive-growing culture.
These tastings take place in the Liotrivi Museum, an atmospheric space that showcases the history of the mansion, traditional tools of the olive mill, and rare archival material. Through curated storytelling and exhibits, guests gain a deeper appreciation of the region’s cultural roots, making each tasting all the more meaningful.
The Historic Liotrivi Mansion is more than a place to visit—it’s a place to feel. It invites you to slow down, reconnect, and explore the richness of Monemvasia through its stories, flavors, and warm hospitality. Here, heritage isn’t just preserved—it’s lived.
Come and experience the essence of Monemvasia, where tradition, taste, and timeless charm come together at Liotrivi Mansion.
