ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

Embark on an unforgettable wine-tasting adventure across three of Santorini’s most iconic wineries, where tradition, innovation, and breathtaking landscapes come together to create an unparalleled experience for wine enthusiasts.

Your journey begins with a visit to Koutsogianopoulos Wine Museum, a one-of-a-kind destination set in a natural cave, eight meters below ground. This unique museum, crafted with dedication over 21 years by the Koutsoyannopoulos family, offers a fascinating glimpse into Santorini’s wine heritage, dating back to the 1660s. Through an engaging audio guide (available in 14 languages) or a guidebook (offered in 22 languages), you will explore the life of vine-growers across centuries. Cap off your museum tour by tasting some of the exquisite wines produced right here in the Koutsoyannopoulos winery, a perfect introduction to Santorini’s distinctive wine scene.

Next, visit Argyros Estate, a winery deeply rooted in tradition, founded in 1903. Located on a 260-acre vineyard in Episkopi Gonia, the estate is home to vines trained in the traditional “kouloura” (basket shape), a method developed to protect them from the island’s harsh winds and dry climate. Walk through the volcanic vineyards, experiencing firsthand how Santorini’s grape varieties, like Assyrtiko, thrive in such unforgiving conditions. Learn about the estate’s growth under generations of winemakers, especially Yiannis Argyros, whose passion for quality brought international acclaim. After the vineyard tour, enjoy tasting the estate’s signature wine styles, each reflecting the unique terroir of Santorini.

The final stop brings you to Venetsanos Winery, perched dramatically above the port of Athinios, overlooking the majestic caldera. Built in 1947, this innovative winery was designed to harness gravity in its production process, an energy-efficient method that was revolutionary at a time when electricity was scarce. As you explore this historic estate, marvel at its unique architecture and learn about its legacy of exporting wine as far as Russia. Wrap up your visit with a tasting session, where you’ll savor up to 12 distinctive wine styles, from crisp Assyrtiko to the famous sweet Vinsanto, all while soaking in the breathtaking caldera views.

This journey through Santorini’s iconic wineries offers a blend of history, innovation, and exquisite wine tasting in one of the world’s most beautiful settings.
