Description
Nestled in the charming southern region of Corfu, in Lefkimmi, Pontiglio Winery carries the spirit of resilience and tradition. The name Pontiglio, an old Corfiot word of Venetian origin meaning stubborn determination, perfectly embodies the journey — since the 1980s, when Corfu’s vineyards faced the threat of extinction, an unwavering passion has driven the estate to preserve the island’s winemaking heritage.
Corfu’s unique terroir is home to rare indigenous grape varieties cultivated here for centuries. Thanks to the island’s protection from phylloxera, the vines are ungrafted, ancient treasures. The winery specialises in the white varieties Kakotrygis and Petrokoritho, and the elegant red Skopelitiko — all deeply rooted in the island’s history.
Although officially opened in 2014, the vineyards have been in the family for generations. Today, the estate produces around 20,000 bottles annually, pressing grapes in the traditional strofilia to ensure each bottle carries the authentic taste of Corfu.
