Description
Roxane Matsa Estate in Attica lies in the heart of Kantza — an area long celebrated for producing wines of exceptional character. Established in 1878, this historic vineyard is rooted in tradition, with many of its vines now over 30 years old. Spanning 122,000 sq.m and cultivated entirely according to organic farming principles, the estate thrives on clay-loam soils rich in calcium, potassium, and magnesium.
The estate’s unique terroir is defined by the Attica climate: warm, dry, and sunlit, with mild winters and hot summers. Kantza is widely regarded as the cradle of the Savatiano variety; the estate also cultivates Roditis, Assyrtiko, Syrah, Malagouzia, and Sauvignon Blanc, each expressing the distinctive identity of this Attica land.
Vineyard Picnic
- Historic Vineyard Picnic: Enjoy a beautifully curated picnic basket of premium Attica artisan foods among the historic Kantza vineyards — vines that have been producing wine since 1878
- Roxane Matsa Wine Pairing: Taste Roxane Matsa Estate wines alongside the picnic foods — experiencing how 145 years of accumulated vineyard knowledge translates into wines of exceptional elegance
- Historic Vineyard Atmosphere: Absorb the extraordinary atmosphere of one of Attica’s most historic vineyards — where the sense of continuity and place is palpable in every vine and every glass
One of the estate’s most iconic symbols is the Venetian lion on the labels of Roxane Matsa wines — known as the “protector of the vines.” The original lion statue was discovered on the grounds and later gifted, along with the surrounding land, to the Greek state by the Matsa family; it now stands just a few meters from the northern vineyard.
The estate’s logo was created by the renowned Greek artist Yiannis Tsarouchis, the sketch drawn in 1945 and dedicated to Roxane Matsa in 1984 — inscribed “στη Ρωξάνη με αγάπη” (“to Roxane with love”), alongside the artist’s signature and date.
