Kampos Chios – A Countryside Walking Tour

Discover the Authentic Beauty of Kampos

Step into the timeless landscape of Kampos, one of the most atmospheric and historically rich areas of Chios. This countryside walking tour invites you to explore a unique mosaic of historic mansions, stone walls, fragrant orchards, and peaceful paths, offering a deep connection to the island’s cultural and agricultural heritage—beautiful in every season.

Discovering Chios Citrus Heritage

The walk unfolds among lush citrus gardens, home to the famous oranges, mandarins, and lemons introduced to Chios by the Genoese centuries ago. Depending on the season, guests have the opportunity to taste or enjoy the aromas of fresh citrus fruits, experiencing the calm and elegance of the Kampos landscape.

Visits to Historic Mansions & Orchards

The experience includes visits to authentic Kampos mansions and private orchards, where owners share insights into the history, architecture, and traditional way of life in the area.

Guests will also see the mángano, the historic water-lifting system once used to draw water from deep wells, revealing how residents managed water resources and cultivated the land for generations.

Flavors & Sweet Traditions of Chios

Along the route, we enjoy tastings of traditional Chiot sweets, prepared by local artisanal producers. Guests may also purchase authentic spoon sweets preserved in syrup, a signature product of the region and a perfect edible souvenir.

Pilgrimage, Art & Pebble Courtyards

The walk includes visits to charming local churches, known for their intricate pebble-stone courtyards. These sacred spaces reflect the spiritual, artistic, and cultural identity of Kampos and remain important landmarks of the area.

Ending at the Kampos Museum – “Perivoli”

The experience concludes at the renowned Kampos Museum “Perivoli”, created by the Xydas family, a place dedicated to heritage, relaxation, and sensory enjoyment.

Guests can enjoy coffee or herbal drinks under the shade of a linden tree—or indoors during the winter—paired with homemade sweets prepared daily, served on elegant antique English porcelain.
