Our apiary lies on a hill southwest of Kranidi, overlooking the beautiful bay of Kilada, as we follow the family tradition in apiculture with passion for the bees and their products from generation to generation since 1914.
We ourselves are the fourth generation of apiarists, keeping the tradition alive. Our long bee-keeping experience led my wife and me to more professional involvement, as we established the first honey and herb packaging company in Argolis in 2007.
Our brand name “Ermionis” was established in 2008, and all our honey and herb products have been promoted and distributed to the local market under that name since then.
Our firm has been applying the ISO 22000 original food safety system since the very beginning, and our farm, where our bees grow and reproduce and where our herbs are cultivated, has been certified as an organic farm by ΔΗΩ institution (the Greek institution for the certification of organic products). Our business gradually expanded, and now it includes a Bee Museum, where visitors can come in immediate contact with the bee world. Today, the company is a model unit of production and packaging, while our honey is assessed for its purity and freshness by an accredited body every year. From the beginning of our operations to the present day, we continue to strive and evolve to the best of our ability, offering high-quality products consistently and responsibly.
TOUR AND TASTING
Visitors to our estate are invited to immerse themselves in a unique experience that blends nature, tradition, and exceptional tastes. Our journey begins at the apiary, nestled on a picturesque hill southwest of Kranidi, overlooking the stunning bay of Kilada. Here, you’ll commune with nature amidst beehives, fragrant herbs, olive, carob, and pomegranate trees.
At the Honey and Bee Museum, housed in a beautifully restored building reflecting the traditional stone-and-reed architecture of old Kranidi, guests can discover the fascinating world of bees. Designed and created by Kosmas Bairaktaris himself, the glass beehives offer an up-close view of the intricate workings of these remarkable creatures. Following the tour, relax in our specially designed outdoor area overlooking the sea, where you’ll enjoy a tasting of our four exquisite honey varieties—thyme honey, honey of aromatic plants and thyme, heather honey, and carob honey—served with freshly kneaded bread and tea made from estate-grown herbs.
Your journey continues at the Olive Oil Museum, inspired by the rich agricultural heritage of Kranidi. This museum features an old olive mill dating back to 1700 and two others from later periods, showcasing centuries of olive oil production. You’ll step back in time as you explore the process of olive oil making in a setting that mimics a traditional mill. Kranidi, celebrated since antiquity for its exceptional olive oil, is home to ancient olive trees mentioned by the Greek traveler and geographer Pausanias.
With a legacy in apiculture and olive oil production spanning over a century, the Bairaktaris family invites you to discover our passion and tradition firsthand. Indulge in a tasting session of our artisanal products and immerse yourself in the stories of the land and the people who have lovingly nurtured it for generations. We look forward to welcoming visitors from around the globe to share in our heritage and our commitment to excellence.
Should visitors be fortunate enough to join us during the harvest season, they’ll have the rare opportunity to witness the honey harvesting process up close and savor the irresistible taste of fresh, golden honeycomb straight from the hive.
