Description
On the Amyndeo plateau in Macedonia, Domaine Karanika cultivates Xinomavro, Assyrtiko, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rare Limniona variety in its high-altitude vineyards using organic methods.
Karanika’s winemaking philosophy holds that real quality is achieved only through complete balance in all aspects of growing and production — minimal handling, no pumping of must or wines, only gravity, piegage, sulfites, and Montmorillonite clay additions.
The estate follows Maria Thun’s biodynamic calendar in both the winery and vineyard, resulting in wines that breathe the terroir — crystal clear, aromatic, with a considerable finish.
Winery Tour and Wine Tasting
- Extended Estate Tour: Spend two hours exploring Domaine Karanika’s high-altitude vineyards and learning about the estate’s rare variety collection
- Limniona Revival: Discover the story of Limniona — one of Greece’s rarest indigenous grapes — and how Karanika is helping bring it back
- Premium Wine Tasting: Taste a curated selection including the celebrated Xinomavro and rare Limniona expressions
The wines produced include sparkling Cuvee Speciale, Cuvee Rose, Cuvee Prestige, and Extra Cuvee de Reserve — all made using the traditional Champesoise method — alongside red Xinomavro and Limniona.
The guided winery tour begins in the vineyard, continues through the winery’s premises and wine cellar, and concludes with a wine tasting session. Explore more Macedonia experiences.
