Description

Melostagma has been operating in the village of Skalohori on the Aegean island of Lesbos since the summer of 2007. Our apiary workshop is a model facility for the production of honey and apiary products, such as pollen, royal jelly, propolis and meliceridia (small honeycomb frames).
The company belongs to the family of Yannis Kamberos, and the honey produced and marketed bears the name Melostagma. Covering production, packaging, and marketing, it is the only vertically integrated facility of its kind in the northern Aegean, and is undergoing certification per ISO 2200 standards. This means that European specifications and hygiene standards for the food workshops are maintained at all levels.
There is a completely automated production flow, without the intervention of human hands. All honey processing machines are made entirely of stainless steel with CE certification.

TOUR AND TASTING

The visitor will be taken through the workshop facilities and will learn about the production process, starting with the honeycombs, their exfoliation, the centrifugation process, the honey clarification and then the final steps leading to packaging.
The visitor can observe how the honeycomb-ointment, the tincture of propolis and St. John’s wort oil are made and how the royal jelly and the pollen are collected. Finally, Mr. Kamperos gives a 15-minute presentation about beehive societies, which is followed by a 20-minute discussion session.
