Perched on a mountain, Agapi (meaning ‘love’) is a village of unique architectural beauty. It is fronted by verdant ravines, picturesque bridges, and numerous dovecotes. Its cobblestone streets, alleys, superb arches, traditional homes with marvelous lintels and water wells are enchanting. The delightful church of Saint Agapitos can be found in the area of Griza. On the last Sunday of the Carnival, the villagers of Agapi celebrate the custom of “Makaronas”.

Singing lamentations, they parade a dummy made of straw through the village streets until they reach the central square where the straw man is burned. Following the parade, the villagers and guests gather in the parish hall to eat the traditional pasta.

Tinos‘ traditional dishes are artichokes cooked in a variety of ways, sun-dried tomatoes with batter, froutalia, savore with molasses, fried fish with petimezi sauce, pork sausages, the saltsisi, and the louza of Tinos. Cheeses include the famed graviera and the kopanisti. As for sweets, famous are the amygdalota, xerotigana, karidota, pasteli, loukoumi, and various kinds of halva as well as the renowned thyme honey of Tinos.
