9th Naxo’s Potato Festival and is calling for another record in the Guinness Book!
On September 1st, the 9th Naxos Potato Festival, the largest rural festival in the Cyclades prefecture, is organized at Agia Anna (Capares area), where producers from Naxos island and their families, with the help of local residents, will try to peel, fry and offer visitors 600kg of the famous Naxos’s potatoes for a place in the Guinness Book of Records. To beat the record will be required, more than 2 tons of unrefined Naxos potatoes, 800 litres of the island’s excellent quality olive oil, 22 traditional pots for the frying and a lot of moods for …peeling!
More than 200 families are engaged in the cultivation of the famous potato of Naxos. Each year 8000 tonnes are produced on the island. The potato of Naxos along with the other agrarian-dairy products have raised Naxos as the largest rural power of the Cyclades and the South Aegean.
Traditional artists and dance groups from the island will keep the mood unabated throughout the record-breaking attempt.
