Description

Kamarantho is a model polyculture organic farm on Paros, Aegean Islands — a living example of the farming practices best suited to the Cyclades. The farm demonstrates that a modern, environmentally beneficial agro-touristic business can make a positive contribution to sustainable agriculture.

Cultivation practices at Kamarantho emulate a natural forest ecosystem: trees, bushes, grasses, tubers, and climbing plants coexist as they do naturally in a forest. Polyculture, rainwater collection, composting, and an automated Greenhouse Management System all support the farm’s commitment to organic farming and permaculture principles.

Visitors tour the farm and see approximately 700 mostly young trees including olives, figs, pomegranates, almonds, carobs, and acacias, along with crops of about 3,500 aromatic and medicinal plants — oregano, savory, dittany, sage, rosemary, lemon balm, marjoram, mint, calendula, lavender, and sea fennel. The farm also features a vineyard with four local grape varieties covering 1,000 m², a greenhouse with plant breeding stalls, outdoor seasonal vegetable gardens, and a worm farm and compost production site.

After the tour, guests can taste the extraordinary souma of Kamarantho and seasonal artisan products — olive oil, olives, fresh tomato paste, sea fennel pickle — as well as local products such as bread from the traditional bakery of Ageria and cheese from the Paros Cooperative. Visitors can also purchase products from the retail shop before leaving.
