Description
The Scalarea winery in Crete is located on the outskirts of the village of Skalani on the Phantaxometoho estate. Situated just 8 km from Heraklion city center and 4 km from the archaeological site of Knossos , it is the jewel of the Archanes viticultural zone. The Phantaxometoho estate, known as “the priory of phantoms,” owes its name to the efforts of its previous owner to protect it from pirate raids by spreading rumors that ghosts haunt the estate.
The winery is open to the public and offers a complete range of visitor experiences. Embark on an unforgettable journey through the rich history, winemaking traditions, and indigenous grapes of Greece and Crete with a guided tour and wine tasting experience at Scalarea Estate. Led by knowledgeable hosts, immerse yourself in the world of wine as you explore the vineyards, production areas, and cellars. Learn about the unique characteristics and significance of local grape varieties, gaining a deeper appreciation for the region’s winemaking heritage.
