Description

Run by the fourth generation of dairy makers of the Vasilas family, Vasilas Dairy has a long tradition in cheese making, on the Island of Lesbos, and makes traditional dairy products from their own milk production in its new, facilities, which conform to all modern specifications. The dairy never runs out, with 1,500 of their own lesbian breed animals living in a model livestock unit and milking in the surrounding area, on the Chrosos, Podaras, and Mesotopos hills. They are looked after by the father of the head cheese maker George Vassilas, Mr. Vassilis, together with his wife Christina – the soul of the dairy – feeding them with grass and good fodder, so that they have more and better quality milk. Birth scheduling and alternate milking ensure fresh milk throughout the year,
It is worth tasting the special flavor of ladotiri as well as the chachles, a form of the traditional trahana of limited production and of great nutritional value.

TOUR DESCRIPTION AND TASTING
Visitors will be guided through the dairy premises and the cheese maturation area. In the morning hours between 09.00 and 14.00, visitors can witness the cheesemaking process and receive interesting information about cheese making in Lesbos.

The tour finally concludes with a cheese-tasting session.
