Kakkavos Estate manages a 40-ha farm, one of the largest in Greece, with 6,000 olive trees, and is located 5 km outside the town of Messolonghi, between the large Acheloos and Evinos rivers and the Mesolonghi lagoon. Together, they form the largest wetland of the Mediterranean, which is protected by the Ramsar treaty as one of eleven internationally important wetlands.
The estate has belonged to our family since 1870 and has recently been extended, reviving cultivations using modern scientific methods that respect both the tradition of the olive tree and the environment, to produce Kalamata olives as well as olive oil from four different varieties of olive trees.
TOUR AND TASTING
When you come to explore our estate, we will provide insights into the diverse flora and fauna that are emblematic of the region’s rich biodiversity. Our discussion will primarily revolve around the four distinct varieties of olive trees we nurture on our estate. Following this, we will showcase the three main products we manufacture: salt, olive oil, and olives. We will also guide you through our state-of-the-art standardization facilities, where you can witness the meticulous processing of Kalamata olives.
Subsequently, we will lead you to the olive mill, where we will elaborate on the intricate olive oil production process. Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to tour an olive oil bottling facility.
The visit culminates in a delightful tasting experience.
