After finishing his studies at the Aegean University of Rhodes, Giorgos Kariofyllis made the decision to follow his aspirations by returning to his ancestral lands in the mountainous village of Lepetymnos on the island of Lesbos. He accomplished this by establishing a farm that would house a variety of animal species, including deer, wild sheep, dwarf goats, peacocks, and pheasants.
His journey began in 2013 when he completed the initial facilities, acquired a selection of animals, and commenced the cultivation of aronia, commonly known as chokeberries. Aronia is classified as a superfood and is renowned internationally as the top medicinal plant in terms of nutritional value.
Each year, the farm expands its product range by introducing new items derived from aronia. These include jam, dried fruit, fresh or frozen fruit (depending on the season), and tea.
TOUR DESCRIPTION AND TASTING
Visitors to Kariofyli farm can see and learn about the aronia plant and its cultivation and connect with a variety of harmoniously co-existing farm animals, feed them, and learn their habits (breeding, living in the wild, grazing).
The experience is of great interest to adults, and especially to children, making the farm popular with schools and social clubs.
