Description
The Livestock Unit “Klonara” is situated in Taxiarchis, within the municipality of Herakleota in the Grevena region. Established by Michalis and Soultana Klonara in 1997, the unit underwent a relocation to modern facilities encompassing a total area of 2500 square meters in 2007.
Within our contemporary facilities, we specialize in breeding sheep of the Greek Chios breed, known for its dairy production. In 2009, the unit initiated a collaboration with the “MAKEDONIA” Sheep Farming Cooperative, the sole official entity dedicated to enhancing the Chios sheep breed. As part of this collaboration, regular monitoring of animal performance is conducted, and certification with PEDIGREE is provided. This family-operated farm involves the active contribution of all family members towards effective management and operation.
In recognition of its excellence, the farm was honored with the 1st prize as the best livestock unit in Greece in 2014.
Farm visitors have the opportunity to gain insights into genetic animal improvement, focusing on both increasing milk quantity and enhancing its quality, as well as gaining knowledge about breeding practices.
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
During the guided tour, guests are encouraged to actively engage in the farm’s operations if they so desire, providing a hands-on experience alongside valuable insights. This unique opportunity allows visitors to witness the inner workings of a farm, participate in feeding adorable lambs, and even try their hand at the art of milking. It’s not just a tour; it’s a chance to connect with the farming experience firsthand.
