Gatsios Distillery

In Istanbul, at the crossroads of East and West, of civilisations and cuisines, Thanassis Gatsios was inducted into the aromatic world of herbs and the secrets of traditional distillation. In 1878, he returned to Syrrako, Ioannina, Epirus — one of Greece’s most historic villages — and founded the first distillery in Epirus. There, with recipes from Constantinople blended with zeal and skill, he created ouzo, tsipouro, brandy, and liqueurs of various flavours — all of excellent quality. Today, visitors to the premises in Arta can witness production in one of the most state-of-the-art distilleries in Greece.
