Description
Dirfis Mushrooms was established in 2003 by agronomists and specialists in mycology Lefteris Lachouvaris and Thanassis Mastrogiannis, on a farm near Mt Dirfis, close to Pissonas village, 15 km from Halkida, on the island of Euboea. The facilities include a substrate plant of 15,000m², 20 mushroom growing tunnels of 360m² each, a modern processing facility of 800m², and an olive grove of two acres.
As a vertically-integrated mushroom plant, products range from the substrate for oyster mushrooms to finished packaged goods — including “souvlaki mushrooms,” “baby oysters,” giant oysters (filet), and exotic mushrooms. Dirfis also maintains a network of collectors and truffle hunters sourcing Porcini, Morels, Chanterelle, Black Trumpet, and Caesar’s mushrooms from forests across Greece.
Wild mushrooms are hand-picked sustainably under expert agronomist care, collected dry beneath the Greek sun in a low-humidity microclimate. Dirfis mushrooms thrive under fir, oak, and beech trees alongside wild roses, thyme, oregano, and wild herbs.
At this truffle hunting and gastronomy experience near Mt. Dirfis, Euboea, our mycologist offers an in-depth introduction to mushroom biology, ecology, cultivation, and the secrets of the truffle world — then guests explore the greenhouses to observe multiple mushroom species up close.
Truffle Hunt and Gastronomy Experience
- Dirfis Truffle Hunt: Search the extraordinary forests near Mount Dirfis for wild truffles with expert mycology guides — one of Euboea‘s most pristine and productive truffle environments
- Expert Mycology Guidance: Learn the complete science and practice of truffle hunting from Dirfis’s specialist mycologists — understanding ecology, identification, and sustainable harvesting
- Truffle Gastronomy Feast: Complete the hunt with a magnificent gastronomy feast prepared from the morning’s discoveries — freshly found truffles transformed into extraordinary dishes
From there, guests head toward the heart of the area where black truffles naturally grow, where the truffle hunter awaits with 2–3 specially trained truffle dogs. Having set out at first light, he has already hidden precious fresh truffles in selected spots — and the dogs now offer a captivating demonstration of how they locate this hidden underground treasure.
The experience continues back at the Park, where visitors stroll among unique and beautifully curated exhibits.
