Description

Douloufakis Winery is located in Dafnes of Heraklion on the island of Crete producing and bottling quality wines made not only from indigenous grape varieties but from international ones as well. The wines with the most local character are the ones from liatiko and vidiano, local Cretan grape varieties, from which the winemaker produces a variety of wines, including barrel-fermented and amphora-fermented wines, like in bygone years.
Our grandfather Dimitris Douloufakis started producing wines professionally in a traditional way in 1930. Today, the family’s traditions of vineyard cultivation and wine production are continued by Dimitris’ grandson, Nikolas Douloufakis. Nikolas, having studied oenology in Italy, successfully strives to highlight the quality of Cretan – Greek wines all over the world. With Nikos’ two sons studying oenology, the family’s winemaking tradition can be expected to blossom.

TOUR AND TASTING

The winery is open to visitors year-round with guided tours of the winery’s facilities and the wine cellar with explanations of the wine production methods.
In the tasting room, visitors can taste our wines, learn their characteristics, and discuss topics concerning the grapes, the grape varieties, the wines, and the Cretan vineyards.

We begin with a guided tour inside the winery, where visitors learn about the wine production process and its secrets. This is followed by a tasting of six wines in our tasting room, featuring a selection of Cretan indigenous varieties, such as Vidiano and Liatiko, as well as international white and red wines. The tasting is accompanied by traditional Cretan rusks.

  • “Euphoria” Tour and Tasting

This experience includes a tasting of six wines in the vineyard, under the shade of a traditional pergola, with stunning views. We start with a guided tour inside the winery, and then visitors are transported to our vineyards, where they can enjoy the natural beauty of the landscape while learning about our sustainable farming practices. The wine tasting is accompanied by traditional Cretan cheeses and rusks. Note: In case of bad weather, the experience will be canceled and may be replaced with the “YAMAS” service.

This service is optional and serves as a complementary addition to the “YAMAS” and “EUPHORIA” experiences.
