In Kastanitsa at the end of October, every year, when the producers pick the chestnuts of the region, the Chestnut Festival is held.
The Chestnut Festival started in 1983. At first, it occurred so as to revive an old celebration that took place in Kastanitsa from the beginning of the 20th century until the war of 1940.
Today the Chestnut Festival is one of the country’s most important and most popular agricultural/cultural events.
The Festival includes events and happenings relating to chestnuts, children’s games, traditional dances from dance groups of cultural associations, accompanied by traditional local music.
Guests during the Festival will have the opportunity to:
• Enjoy chestnuts at their place of origin (boiled, baked, in pastries and chows), with free wine
• Enjoy hot dishes such as pork with chestnut, boiled goat, bean soup, handmade pies, skewers and pastries based on chestnut
• Have fun with traditional music
• Taste original, local food based on chestnuts
• And our little friends to play in the children’s workshop.
