Description

Nestled in the storied wine region of Archanes, near Heraklion, Crete, Moinoterra Winery is a boutique estate where 4,000 years of Cretan winemaking heritage meet contemporary craftsmanship. Here, ancient terroir and modern vision come together to create wines of depth, balance, and authenticity.

Perched at an altitude of 550 metres on the foothills of Mount Juktas, the vineyards bask in the island’s crystalline light and are cooled by mountain breezes — conditions that nurture slow-ripening fruit and wines of remarkable elegance and expression.

Guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention, Moinoterra focuses on mature vines, low yields, and a deep respect for nature’s rhythms. Tradition and innovation coexist seamlessly, allowing each wine to speak clearly of its origin.

The portfolio celebrates indigenous Cretan varieties — Kotsifali, Mandilari, Vilana, Moschato Spinas, and Assyrtiko — each crafted to reveal its distinct site-specific character and purity of fruit.

The name “Moinoterra” fuses oinos (wine) with terra (land) and pays homage to the land of Minos, reflecting a timeless bond between Crete’s mythical past and its living vineyards.

At Moinoterra, every bottle is an invitation to experience the spirit of Crete — ancient, sunlit, and ever-evolving.

Tour and Tasting

At Moinoterra Winery, every visit is an invitation to experience the true soul of Crete through a warm, personal, and sensory journey into our wines.

Today, guests can enjoy curated wine tastings that celebrate the island’s indigenous grape varieties — Vidiano, Kotsifali, Mandilari, and Moschato Spinas. Each tasting is thoughtfully paired with hand-selected local delicacies, creating a dialogue between Cretan flavors and our expressive wines — a harmony that captures the island’s essence in every sip.

Beginning in May 2026, the Moinoterra experience will expand to include guided winery tours — an intimate exploration of the craftsmanship behind our wines. Visitors will trace the winemaking journey from grape to glass: walking through the production area, observing stainless-steel fermenters at work, stepping into the barrel room where our wines slowly mature, and watching the bottling line bring each creation to life.

The tour concludes amidst our boutique hillside vineyard, a serene setting that reflects both the natural beauty of Crete and the philosophy of balance and respect that defines Moinoterra.

Whether you join us now for a tasting or return for a full winery tour, every visit to Moinoterra is a celebration of stories, aromas, and traditions — a chance to discover what makes Cretan wine culture timeless and unforgettable.
