Description
Welcome to the Central Athens Day Tour — a 5-hour journey combining tradition, craftsmanship, and history in the heart of Attica.
The first stop is Trikalinos, a family-owned company preserving the tradition of processing female grey mullet roe since 1856, located just 5 km from Athens Center. Witness meticulous techniques of fishing grey mullets, extracting roe, and producing the renowned Trikalinos avgotaraho (bottarga). A 15-minute video presentation immerses you in the centuries-old process, followed by a tasting of Trikalinos products including marinated anchovies, marinated sardines, and exquisite roe. The tour concludes with a visit to the retail store.
Next is Noctua Brewery, a craft beer destination just 2 km from Omonia Square. Noctua’s mission is to produce flavorful craft beers that stand out from the ordinary. Tour their premises and savour three of their distinctive craft beers — experiencing Athens’s vibrant brewing culture firsthand.
Central Athens Culinary & Cultural Day Tour
- Trikalinos Avgotaraho: Begin at the legendary Trikalinos family workshop — makers of the world’s finest bottarga since 1856 — and learn the ancient art of avgotaraho production
- Central Athens Food Culture: Explore the historic food markets and artisan producers of central Athens that have sustained the city’s culinary heritage across the centuries
- Cultural Tastings: Taste exceptional Athenian food products at each stop — experiencing the extraordinary depth and diversity of the Greek capital’s food culture
The tour concludes at the Archaeological Museum of Kerameikos, nestled within the archaeological site and showcasing funerary exhibits from excavations conducted by the German Archaeological Institute. Walk through the single-story building housing sculptural works spanning all periods of antiquity and ceramics from the Kerameikos necropolis. A covered atrium leads to a small interior garden adorned with olive and laurel trees. Wrap up with a visit to the ticket desk and souvenir shop.
