Description
Step into nearly a century of beekeeping tradition with the Syriotis family, who have practiced apiculture since 1927 in the historic mountain village of Old Perithia, northern Corfu.
Nestled on the foothills of Mount Pantokrator, Old Perithia is one of Corfu’s oldest settlements and has been a protected heritage village since 2000. Here, the Syriotis family continues to produce exceptional Corfiot honey using static apiaries and time-honored methods passed down through generations.
This authentic farm visit invites you to connect directly with local producers and experience honey at its source.
Syriotis Family Apiary Tour & Honey Tasting Experience
At the family apiary, you’ll explore approximately 70 active beehives (out of the 250 maintained by the family in the wider region) and learn:
- The history of the Syriotis family
- How traditional Corfiot beekeeping has evolved over almost 100 years
- How bees transform wild mountain nectar into honey
- Why static apiaries preserve terroir and flavor
Your hosts share their personal story and explain the daily life of the hive in a relaxed, welcoming setting.
Discover Two Unique Corfiot Mountain Honeys
The Syriotis family produces only two specific honey varieties, depending on seasonal blooms:
- Spring Blossom Honey – light-colored, floral, created from hundreds of wild mountain flowers
- Dark Mountain Honey – deeper and richer, sourced from oak, chestnut, thyme, and wild herbs
Guests enjoy a guided tasting of both honeys, learning how to recognize aroma, texture, and flavor differences while discovering what makes true raw mountain honey special.
Honey Tasting & Family Storytelling
During your visit, you will:
- Taste authentic Corfiot honey directly from the producers
- Learn how blooming cycles affect flavor profiles
- Understand what defines high-quality honey (two Corfiot mountain honeys, spring blossom honey, dark honey, which is either oak and wildflowers or chestnut and herbs (always depending on blooming)
- Hear stories of the family’s journey from 1927 to today
You may also stop by the small traditional Syriotis Family Honey Shop, opened in 2022 in the heart of the village, next to Evdokia Taverna.
