Description

Dimitris Migas, carrying on the longstanding family legacy in the vineyard, as well as the art of tsipouro and wine production, spanning back at least four generations, initiated a remarkable venture in 1999, significantly boosting the region’s vitality located just 2 km. west of Tirnavos in a place named Paleos Ampelos, near the Titarisios River, 100 meters above sea level, and benefits from a mild continental climate and good soil drainage. This endeavor entailed the establishment of a pioneering winery that not only stands as a testament to his family’s commitment but also serves as a hub for wine tourism, fueling dynamic growth in the area.

The saga of the Migas family’s connection to viticulture began by planting the Mavro Muscat of Tirnavos as well as French varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Concurrently, they delved into the craft of distillation to craft their exquisite tsipouro.

In 1999, the foundation for the winery, located at “Palaios Ampelos” in Tirnavos, was laid, marking the initiation of a new chapter. By 2001, the first bottles under the prestigious label “Palaios Ampelos” came to fruition, a typical wine of the region’s microclimate (terroir), etching the family’s name deeper into the viticultural heritage. The subsequent years witnessed the continuous expansion of the winery, with a renewed focus on integrating state-of-the-art technology, bolstering production capacity, and perfecting the cellaring process.

As time unfolded, a steadfast commitment to elevating production standards and quality control became apparent. In 2016, the estate introduced its inaugural semi-sparkling wine produced by the Mavro Muscat of Tirnavos, further solidifying its position as an industry leader. A year later, a pivotal expansion phase culminated in a significant eco-conscious transformation, emphasizing the minimization of the winery’s carbon footprint, aligning with the family’s unwavering dedication to environmental sustainability.

Domaine D. Migas is open to all wine lovers and anyone wishing to get to know the world of wine and viticulture.
