Description
Nestled among lush vineyards and olive groves, the Angelakis family winery is located in the heart of Thrapsano Pediada, a village renowned for its deep-rooted connection to pottery, an art form practiced here since ancient times. This heritage is reflected in the presence of traditional ceramic workshops, known as “thripsala” or “thrapsala,” which have lent the village its name.
Inspired by Thrapsano’s rich legacy in pottery and viticulture, we have revived a centuries-old tradition by fermenting and aging part of our wines in handcrafted clay vessels. In doing so, we allow the fruit to “return” to the earth, completing a cycle that honors the soil from which it was born.
Tour and Tasting
The tour begins with an immersive visit to our traditional raki distillery, where the art of distillation comes to life. From there, we guide you through our fermentation area, showcasing the state-of-the-art equipment, including the grape crusher and pneumatic press, giving you a firsthand look at how we carefully crush the grapes.
Next, you’ll step into the bottling area and then into our unique amphora room, where we continue the age-old tradition of winemaking in clay vessels, just as the artisans of Thrapsano have done for centuries.
The experience culminates in our elegant tasting room, where you’ll savor four exquisite wines, perfectly paired with locally-sourced, traditional delicacies, offering a true taste of our region’s heritage.
