Ben Olive Mill is a private family-owned olive press built within our organic olive grove in the Peloponnese between Kalamata and Megalopoli, producing extra virgin olive oil. All fine specimens of the Koroneiki olive tree variety were planted in 1890, making them over a hundred years old. We encourage you to touch, feel, and experience the groves where trees are planted far apart.
Our Estate has never employed intensive farming and harvesting methods. We believe in supporting the land as a natural botanical garden where local self-sowing flora thrives. The estate is home to the sight and smells of wildflowers blooming there every season. Our olives are harvested entirely by the gentlest methods to minimize damage to the delicate fruit. The olives fall on to special protective nets, are transferred into sacks woven out of natural material, and taken to the extraction press daily. While the essence of our techniques remains profoundly traditional the pressing stage benefits from the precision of our state of the art equipment. We aim to maximize purity and quality over quantity. Our olive oil far surpasses the requirements of its category and we believe it is “Beyond Extra Virgin Olive Oil,” as we like to boast.
TOUR AND TASTING
Wear comfortable shoes, dress casual, and use sun protection during the summer. During your visit, we will take you to the olive grove and the olive mill where you will be shown the processes involved in producing olive oil.
You will see our grove’s fully developed trees with olives containing the full range of nutrients and flavors drawing from the composition and quality of the soil.
The highlight of the “Our Olive Tour and Tasting” experience, includes tasting different varieties of olives and olive oil accompanied by authentic Greek bread, learning how to taste olive oil, and becoming an expert at choosing the right olive oil when you are done.
