The Greek island of Amorgos, located in the Cyclades, is sending a message of optimism, through gastronomy, to potential travelers from around the world. At the same time, the island is preparing for the upcoming summer season by constantly adjusting its tourism policy to the post-Covid-19 protocols.
The Municipality of Amorgos recently released a video featuring some of the island’s unique recipes and gastronomy secrets. Prepared by local hotelier and municipal councilor Irini Giannakopoulou, the island’s specialties will soon “travel” around the globe on the #greecefromhome platform, through the Greek National Tourism Organization’s offices abroad, and be circulated by foreign journalists and bloggers.
According to the municipality, the island’s municipal tourism committee, in collaboration with travel and tourism consultants MTC Group, is working on a strategic tourism promotion plan that will soon be available for public consultation.
Moreover, the municipality is planning its next steps towards an effective approach to the island’s source markets, giving high priority to domestic travelers. Its aim is to mitigate the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Greece’s tourism industry.
“We remain safe and prepare for the summer season ahead… We invest in our loyal visitors and those who wish to visit and enjoy our island,” Amorgos Mayor Lefteris Karaiskos said.
