Karidota is a traditional sweet made with crushed walnuts, orange flavoring and anthonero scent. It can be found all over Greece in a number of variations. Karidota is a nutritious sweet for walnut lovers on a fast – yet it is so good that it is eaten all year round. It is hard to eat just one! Karidota is easy and quick to prepare and, as a Lenten treat, leaves a pleasant taste in the mouth.
You will find it in many variations: with jam, nuts, cinnamon, grated coconut, mastiha. It can be enjoyed either as a truffle-like ball or, more conveniently, in cubes.
Karidota is offered at social events like weddings and christenings, and is kept in tightly-sealed boxes. Before being served, they are sprinkled with powdered sugar.
